April Rose Gedney
April Rose Gedney, a Wisconsin native, has called New York her home for over ten years. She began her studies at the University of Wisconsin – Madison where she earned her BA and then spent several years working in Miami. It was in Miami where she decided to follow her true passion of becoming a designer. Soon thereafter, April moved to New York City to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where she received her second degree in Accessory Design. This path has led her to design handbags and shoes for many brands such as Kenneth Cole, Rafe, Aimee Kestenberg, Jean-Michel Cazabat, and Jessica Simpson. Currently, April is preparing to launch her first handbag collection, Hebe Rose Vintage: www.hebe-rose-vintage-new-york.myshopify.com.
April identifies herself as a mixed race female, designer, and the momma to an adorable cockapoo puppy, named Romey. Although small in stature, April is relentless when she sets her sight on something, and creativity is constantly coursing through her veins. Her Midwestern upbringing fosters her sweet kindness, while her old-fashioned wherewithal keeps her afloat in the Big Apple. Being Lisa’s sister, it is no surprise that April is also fascinated by the fashion industry. April is drawn to this project because she believes that the identity of a person can be expressed through fashion as a reflection of his/her state of mind. Lisa’s emotional concepts explored in her poetry paired with the visual images fit brilliantly with April’s perception of the world. However, April is most compelled by the notion that too often people sit alone with these dark emotions feeling isolated, and to her, this book allows people to recognize their oneness with so many others.
“If it doesn’t flow, let it go. You can’t force things or people in life to do something. If it is meant to happen, it will happen.” ~April Rose Gedney
